Risk3 - Making It Safe To Talk

The Imminent Threat

It is a common perception that the party involved in the technical aspects of planting a device is the ultimately the beneficiary of the intercepted information.

When a situation develops where a ready market exists for inside information, there is immediately an associated risk that a third party with the ability to mount a technical attack will do so, knowing that there are ways of being financially rewarded for the product. In Asia where many people have both the expertise and skill in electronic engineering, as well as knowledge of the products available on the market the risk is increased.

From a detection point of view, whether or not an individual or an organization ever had direct access to the targeted physical premises where the audio-surveillance operation is conducted is not as important as who may have had access on their behalf, either in an overt or a covert manner.

In most cases this involves such a wide category of persons it is difficult to eliminate anyone. A few of the more common examples include the following:

- Competitors
- Hostile Takeovers suitor
- Disgruntled Employees

If you suspect that you or your company could be the target of illegal technical surveillance please do not call or fax us from a telephone or office that you fear may be targeted. Use a safe phone (not a mobile) away from the premises.
